NON C'È SOLO Warren Buffett che scrive lettere agli azionisti, anche se lui è una sorta di precursore (oltre a partecipare alla ventura). Adesso che è "in pensione" e si occupa a tempo pieno della fondazione Bill & Melinda Gates, anche Bill Gates ha deciso di scrivere una sua lettera annuale destinata agli stakeholders della sua fondazione. Cioè, l'umanità (almeno, quella parte che legge l'inglese e vive negli Stati Uniti o dove c'è un computer collegato a Internet).
Money quote: Polio is another good example of what can happen when you take innovations that benefit the rich world and apply them in the poor world. The book Polio: An American Story, by David Oshinsky, tells the story of how Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s polio raised public awareness of the disease and made it possible to raise money for research into a vaccine. The vaccine work was done in the United States in the 1950s, supported by the March of Dimes. Polio was eliminated from the United States in 1979.
Because of that success, in 1988 the world adopted a goal of making polio the second disease to be eliminated, after smallpox. The United Nations Fund for Children and the World Health Organization led the charge. Rotary International has been a primary supporter of the work, and we wouldn’t be anywhere on this without their efforts.
